It always gives me a thrill to be walking where I know others did before me centuries ago! Take the Anchor pub as an example. In 1666, Samuel Pepys, the diarist, sat in 'a little alehouse on Bankside and watched the fire grow'- that little alehouse was the Anchor Tavern and the fire was the Great Fire of London. Did Sam stand where I was standing? I love imagining that he did!
