Yes really! After WWII, many of London's structures were badly damaged by the bombs and so difficult decisions had to be taken about which ones to repair. As a part of that process the idea of listing structures of historical and/or architectural importance came about which gave these special structures legal protection. But, it is not just buildings that are protected - in this instance it is the telephone kiosks outside Mount Street Gardens: important because they are designed by a famous English architect Giles Gilbert Scott but also because they are rare. Only 200 left out of 1700 originally.
