From Russia with Love

Two exhibitions which explore Britain's relationship with Russia open today at the Queen's Gallery. The first entitled 'Russia, Royalty and the Romanovs' considers family, political, diplomatic and artistic stories about Britain and Russia and their Royal families. The other, Roger Fenton's 'Photographs of the Crimea' is the first exhibition to focus exclusively on Fenton's pioneering photographs of the Crimean War which showed the reality of the war to the Victorian public for the first time.Easily accessible from Victoria station, these are two exhibitions worth visiting.

Admiralty Arch in the sunshine

There is nothing quite like Admiralty Arch in the Autumn sunshine. The central arch is used only by the Queen as she rides in her state landau alongside visiting Heads of State as they make their way to Buckingham Palace for a state banquet. I took this standing in the middle of the Mall which is lined with the flags of the visiting Head of State interspersed with the union flag n a state visit day - it's quite a sight!

View from the Inn!

I took this photo from the roof of the café in St James' Park called 'inn the Park'. some friends of ours held their anniversary party there last summer - drinks on the roof terrace first followed by dinner inside the restaurant. A lovely idea! It's a gorgeous spot to pop in for a coffee break in between the site seeing.

Autumn colours are here at last!

Is it just me or has Autumn been a long time in coming! We've had such warm weather for so long Autumn seems to have been put on hold but wandering through St James' Park yesterday it has clearly arrived! The lovely russets and bronzes are starting to put in an appearance so now is the time to spend a day outside of London at Winkworth Arboretum and enjoy the Autumn colours at their very best.

Hidden café in central London

You will all have seen the iconic image of St Martin-in-the-Fields Church to the side of Trafalgar Square. But how many of you have ventured into the café in its crypt? Its entrance is to the left hand side of the church as you stand looking at it and not only does it provide good food but it does so at a reasonable price and you eat surrounded by inspiring architecture knowing that profits go to support the work of the church. It's definitely worth a visit.
